Are you expecting? Congratulations! There are so many exciting preparations for a new baby—and deciding on newborn photos is one of them. Here’s what you can expect from a newborn session with Michelle Pena Photography.
Scheduling Your Newborn Photography Session
When it comes to scheduling, earlier is better! Even though your exact session date might change depending on when baby arrives, getting on the books guarantees you a spot. Last-minute openings are always welcome, but booking saves you the hassle.
How Old is “Newborn?”
Once baby has arrived, we can settle on an exact session date, generally within 10 days. (Preemies are an exception, of course.) Babies are just easier to photograph soon after birth: still very sleepy and flexible! I do work with and have a workflow implemented for older babies, but it may take longer to achieve certain poses, and I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to get those adorable, curly newborn poses. We’ll still get some great images though!
How Long Does a Newborn Session Last?
A typical session usually takes between 2 and 3 hours, depending on baby. For families larger than 3 (including baby), I’ll probably separate your shoot into 2 sessions. Believe me, you will love me for doing this! It’s way less stress for everyone involved, and there’s no extra charge.
What to Bring
I provide everything you need for beautiful baby pictures, including wraps, outfits, headbands, bonnets, props, and backdrops. I have a huge variety, so there’s something for everyone. If you’d like to bring a small family heirloom to include, you’re welcome to do so.
If your baby takes one, please bring a pacifier to keep the little one calm and happy while posing. You can also feed baby as needed.
Please note: Dress in layers. I keep my photography studio toasty warm so my littlest clients are comfy.

You may wonder if it’s safe to book professional newborn photos right now. While this decision is totally up to you, I can assure you that your baby’s safety is a top priority. I employ rigorous health and safety measures at my Victoria, Texas studio. Rest assured, your baby is in squeaky clean hands at Michelle Pena Photography!
